The industrial and logistics port of Venice and that of Chioggia, more tied to a fish–based economy, are important points of the provincial infrastructure for the traffic of goods and movement of persons.

The port of Venice offers regular cargo Services which connect Venice with the main ports of the Mediterranean, such as: Alexandria, Haifa, Beirut, Istanbul, Pireo, Malta, Gioia Tauro and via transhipment with those of the rest of the world: South Africa, North and South America, the Far East and China, Australia and Oceania. Regular ferries and high speed ships (both for passengers and cargo) depart daily from the Venetian port connecting Venice with Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Dalmatia, and Istria.

The port of Venice, which handled almost 30 million tons of goods in 2007, recorded an decrease of 2.4% compared with 2006, placing itself among the most important Italian ports.

In 2007, the movement of passengers between arrivals, departures and transits reached 1,503,371, an increase of 3.4% compared with the previous year. It is a promising sector, linked to trans-Adriatic ferries, Mediterranean Cruises, and connected to the good progress of the traffic of the Marco Polo Airport, third national hub.

The port of Chioggia is experiencing an important phase of development, thanks also to the recent structural and logistical renewal by ASPO, the special Company of the Venice Chamber of Commerce. In addition to being the main fishing port of the Veneto region, with a large and busy market, it has reached an impressive level of productivity and competitiveness compared with other Adriatic ports. In 2007 the total movement of goods recorded less than 2.6 million tons, a decrease of 5.4% compared with the previous year. The port of Chioggia handles mainly metallurgic products, construction materials and cereals destined for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
