Chemical production is by far the most
important sector of the Municipality of
Venice. Located primarily in the industrial
area of Porto Marghera, in 2007 it recorded
an export flow of above 590 million Euro
(+20,2% compared with 2006).
Production involves basic chemical
products: diluents, solvents,
inorganic chemical products, methylene
chloride, toluene, xylol, trichlorethylene,
perchloroethylene, isopropyl alcohol,
to which are added pesticides and other
chemical products for agriculture.
Colours, paints and enamels are
also produced: retouching, stucco and wood
oils, intumescents and water-based paints
with a satin finish for internal and external
use, alkyd paints for steel, water colours,
vinyl glues.
Household and personal cleaning
products are produced in large
numbers – detergents, face and
body creams, cleansing milk and toners – and
the pharmaceutical, chemical and botanical
products for medicinal purposes.
Plastic articles are
one of the main products exported from
the Venice province, having reached a value
of over 183 million Euro in 2007,
with an increase of 0.9% compared with
2006.
Aside from the plastic components for the
automobile and motorcycle industries, the
following are also produced in the Venice
area: expanded polystyrene in granules,
thermoplastic profiles, rigid and plastic
pvc granules, Plexiglas and polycarbonate
sheets, polyethylene bags, preformed shapes
in pet, parts in thermoformed plastic for
automatic can dispensers, plastic film.
Finally, worthy of note is the manufacturing
activity of refractory and construction
products: bricks, mortar, cement,
refractory rollers, refractory elements for
industrial ovens, impermeable and protective
membranes for foundations, paving materials.
